Bad Kitty by Michele Jaffe

Jasmine Callihan is to the readers of 2007 what Nancy Drew was to the readers of 1957. Jasmine lands in the middle of a mystery in LasVegas. She is just on a long weekend get away with her dad, her stepmother, her favorite aunt and uncle, and her cousin. The family has just arrived when Jasmine is thrust onto center stage as she immediately flies through the air and ends up ruining a wedding cake at an elaborate reception at the Venetian Hotel.

The head of security at the hotel explains to the family, that Jas has actually helped out with a delicate security situation and has not ruined anything!

Now, you are taken on a ride for the next two hundred pages. Michele Jaffe writes with humor and wit. She adds little side-tracked conversations throughout the novel, so you feel as you are talking to teens and not just reading about the characters. It is fresh and fun!

The plot has several twists and turns and Jas’s friends join her in Vegas which adds confusion and humor throughout the entire story.

The characters have fashion consultations on what to wear, daring fashion changes with just the twist of a scarf or rip of a hemline, and many wild rides on the Vegas strip. There is never a dull moment in this book. This book is not just for mystery lovers. Bad Kitty is a great read for anyone who loves a fast paced funny story.

I feel that this novel will appeal to young girls. I think that it is appropriate for upper grade elementary students. Michele Jaffe’s writing style is very “hip.” Her dialogue between characters makes one feel that they are having a conversation with the reader.

After finishing this selection, I thought that it would be great if the author continues to write about the situations that Jas and her friends get themselves into and how they go about solving mysteries!

I can see why this book is among the top ten books recommended by teens to read. It is very entertaining and funny. I feel that this once you read this story, you will be come a Michele Jaffe fan and look for other stories written by her.

I am not sure what is going on with the format, or if anyone else can see it, but its distracting to have sentences broken up. the link about the hotel i think could be placed at the bottom of the blog because it seems kind of random the way its posted in the middle, unless you hyperlinked it to the hotel name (like you did putting a link on the word bad kitty). just a suggestion! :)

Hi Mary, I made changes like the ones on your previous posting. Here are the key ideas to adhere to in the future:

1) You don't have to write the title and author of the book, once you put that info in the "title" of your posting. Blogger will put the title in big bold letters at the start of your post.

2) Don't hit enter as you type--just keep writing until you get to the end of a paragraph. Then, hit enter twice to start a new paragraph.

3) To create hyperlinks, first find the web page you want to link to; then, copy the URL for this web page. Then go back to your post, and left click on scroll on the word you wish to highlight or link to. right click on the hyperlink icon, and paste the URL into the box, as requested. Then click submit, and Blogger will take care of the rest.

It does take a while to get the hang of this, but if you look at others, and especially go back and look at the post you previously submitted, you should see what I am talking about here.

You are off to a good start--I look forward to your future postings!

Sounds like a fun read.

I don't know Nancy Drew. Wouldn't this be a nice place for another link?

Mirja- you don't know who Nancy Drew is??!! Come to my house friend, I have the whole collection, both old and new, and it is fabulous! My whole life all I ever wanted was a blue mustang.....

But back to work...Mary, I think that your review appealed to a gal like me who would want to read something a little girly and hip! As an enthusiastic mystery reader, I want to know why I should choose that book over the countless others. Next time, maybe add a little taste of the trouble and mayhem that Jas gets into. Thanks for referencing Nancy Drew; now that is a series that all humans should read!!!

Hey, Mary!

After reading the other comments, I think it might be helpful to add a hyperlink for Nancy Drew. Mirja didn't know about it. Which tells me, that others won't either. Just a suggestion. Otherwise, great review.

Sounds like a fun book and I think that your review turned out great, especially after the corrections that Amanda and Mirja suggested.
